The airplanes this time will fly on the sea, which will allow extraordinary views to the spectators. She is without a doubt one of the faster races of motor of the world: 11 pilots will dispute in front of beaches of the Bogatell and Nova Icaria a frenetic race race against the clock, reaching 400 speeds of km/h and only to meters of the water. It is a new dimension of the motor sports: formula 1 of the air! A race very exciting and spectacular race against the clock! The pilots are put under g forces, three times superior to those of F1. The world-wide championship will also pass by Berlin (27 of May), Saint Petersburg (17 of June), Istambul (29 of July), Budapest (20 of August), Longleat (2 of September), San Francisco (7 of October) and Perth (19 of November). FORMULA 1 OF THE AIR ARRIVES AT BARCELONA Barcelona will welcome next the 6 of May one of the faster races of motor of the world: 11 pilots of acrobatic flight will dispute in front of beaches of the Bogatell and Nova Icaria a frenetic race race against the clock, reaching 400 speeds of km/h and only to meters of the water. The Spanish pilot Alexander Maclean, who already participated in the Network Bull Air Race World Series 2005, will try to proclaim champion. Abu Dhabi, Berlin, Saint Petersburg, Istambul, Budapest, New York and Perth also will be host of this world-wide championship. The first race of the Red Bull Air Race World Series 2006 was the past celebrated 18 of March in Abu Dhabi (Arab Emirates). And in few weeks, the circus of the air will arrive at Barcelona. The Saturday 6 of May to 17:00 hours, the spectators will be able to follow from beaches of the Bogatell and Nova Icaria this exciting race in the air. The circuit, formed by inflatable doors of 18 meters of height, will be placed on the sea and the pilots will have to cross it in the smaller possible time, crossing the doors in a certain order and making pre-established acrobatic maneuvers. The 400 speeds that will reach km/h and to little meters of the water, the pilots will be put under forces of even 10 g, which means that they will support during several seconds ten times his normal weight (in Formula 1 g forces of level 4 are reached). Extreme conditions that demand to the pilots a maximum level of precision, speed of reaction… and steel nerves! The race also will be able to be followed from the sea, where a zone will be delimited so that the pleasure boats can be placed, that will be able to tune in their radio transmitter channel 15 and to listen in direct the broadcasting of the race. In addition, from 11:00 hours the emotion will be let feel in the zone of “paddock” located next to the beach of Nova Beautiful Sea, where the public will be able to know in person the pilots and to see his airplanes, authentic monsters with a ratio power/impressive weight: only 650 kg and more than 300 horses. There a temporary airport with a runway of 500 meters will be constructed, where they will take off and land the 11 pilots. The race will be relayed in direct by television in more than 40 countries. Million spectators worldwide will be able to enjoy this exciting race race against the clock in the sky of the condal city. THE ORIGIN OF CARRERA The tradition of the races of airplanes comes from EE.UU and has its origins in years 20. Nevertheless, in EE.UU., the Air Race one flies mainly in a straight line with two changes of sense and it only counts the speed. Hungarian Peter Besenyei, twice world-wide champion of acrobatic and creative flight of the Network Bull Air Race, realized of which to the American model it needed the acrobatic aspect, the art, the virtuosity in the dominion of the airplane and its objective valuation. In summer of 2003 they were made the first Air Race in Zeltweg (Austria) and Tököl (Hungary) to verify that its idea was viable. In 2004, more of a million spectators they were let captivate by this sport in Budapest, Kemble (England) and Reno (EE.UU.). And finally, in 2005, a world-wide championship was organized, the Red Bull Air Race World Series, with seven races (Abu Dhabi, Rotterdam, Zeltweg, Rock of Cashel, Longleat, Budapest and San Francisco), in three continents and more than three million and means of spectators. In 2006, the Air Race World Series will visit the five continents. THE CIRCUIT The circuit of the race measures approximately 1.4 kilometers in length and consists of a series of inflatable doors. The pilots have to make a complete return of the circuit in each one of the four sessions: in the 2 rounds clasificatorias the previous day to the race and in the 2 sleeves the day of the race. They must cross the inflatable doors --what crossing of doors is denominated-- several times and in a pre-established order and of a way. Each inflatable pylon (the post of the door) measures 18 meters of stop, with a space (width) of 10-14 door meters. The spread of the wings of an airplane is of approximately 8 meters. The wide one of the door is of 10 meters for the passage to knife (red doors), in which the airplane crosses the door in vertical, 12 meters for the made level step (blue doors) in which the crossing becomes in horizontal and 10 meters when the crossing is made after a difficult maneuver (black doors). The chronometer is put in march when a pilot crosses the line of exit, and for when it exceeds the line of goal. SCORE AND PENALTIES All the pilots who compete in a Air Race have to fly in four sessions, two clasificatorias and two of race in himself, known like Sleeve 1 and Sleeve 2. The previous day to the race clasificatorias are 2 sessions, that allow to determine the order of exit of the pilots the day of the race. The times and positions are reversed, so that the slowest pilot is first in crossing the line of exit. The race consists of two sleeves. The winner is the pilot who kills the fastest time in sleeves 1 and 2, including the time penalties that have suffered. The penalties are the turn out to commit a series of infractions: to pass a door incorrectly, to execute an acrobatic maneuver of incorrect form or to touch a door with any part of the airplane. The pilots also can be disqualified to make a dangerous flight, to turn aside itself of the specified route and not even to try to execute the prescribed acrobatic maneuver. Although the disqualifications are extremely infrequent, he is habitual to add time due to the penalties, and the fastest pilots usually are those that execute “a clean” test, without penalties. In each Air Race the pilots can accumulate points for the general classification, that at the end of the season decide who will be crowned like champion of the World Series. The winner of a race accumulates six points, the second receives five, the third four, quarter three, the fifth two and the sixth one. The pilot who finishes with the greater number of points of classification at the end of the season can affirm exactly that he is the best pilot of races of the world.
